Many people are interested in natural cures for scabies because they are concerned about the potential side effects of prescription drugs used to treat the condition. You see, while, prescription medications are usually effective against scabies, they carry the risk of side effects, some of them quite serious. Of course, not everyone that uses these medications experiences side effects, but everyone is at risk for them.
Commonly Prescribed Prescription Medications For Scabies And Their Side Effects
If you review these possible side effects of commonly prescribed medications for scabies, you’ll understand why so many people are interested in a natural scabies remedy.
Elimite Topical Solution – Side effects include skin irritation, redness, swelling, itching, stinging, and burning sensation. Serious allergic reactions are rare but can occur, causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat and difficulty breathing. Seek immediate medical attention if that occurs.
Eurax Topical Solution – Side effects include skin irritation, redness, swelling, itching, stinging, and burning sensation. Serious allergic reactions are rare but can occur, causing swelling of the face, tongue, and throat and difficulty breathing. Seek immediate medical attention if that occurs.

Due to the risk of serious side effects, Lindane is generally only prescribed when other medications for scabies haven’t worked or if other medications can’t be used for some other reason.
Natural Cures For Scabies
So what options do you have, if you want to try a natural scabies remedy?
Tea Tree Oil – Tea tree oil is an essential oil often used for its antiseptic properties. It is also used to relieve skin irritation. It can be added to bathwater to soothe the itching caused by scabies. However, it probably won’t cure scabies. It probably won’t kill the mites that cause the itching. That means it will only provide temporary relief.
Clove Oil – Clove oil, or essential oil of clove, is often used as an insecticide. It can be added to bathwater, where it will be absorbed through the skin and may kill the scabies mites. It’s not certain, though, and it’s also not known how much clove oil you’d need to add to your bathwater to have the desired effect. If you don’t add enough, it probably won’t kill the mites, but if you add too much, it can cause serious skin irritation.
Sulfur 6X HPUS – Sulfur 6X HPUS is a homeopathic remedy used to treat a variety of skin problems, including scabies, and some other types of parasites. It’s available in tablet form, but when used to treat scabies it is usually provided in a liquid or cream form.
Our Preferred Natural Scabies Remedy
We’ve reviewed a number of natural cures for scabies. Our favorite is Naturasil Scabies Liquid, which is a liquid solution you add to bathwater. It contains a homeopathic remedy, sulfur 6X HPUS, as well as Melaleuca alternifolia leaf oil (also known as tea tree oil) and Cymbopogon citratus leaf oil (also known as lemongrass oil). A couple of those ingredients were discussed in the section on Natural Cures for Scabies above, but they are more effective in combination than alone. The combination of natural ingredients in Naturasil relieves the itching and irritation of scabies as well as killing the mites.
